Voice of Encouragement Tanzania (VET) was founded in 2017 with a profound mission to uplift and empower marginalized girls and young women in Tanzania. Born from the urgent need to address gender-based violence, early marriages, unintended pregnancies, and systemic inequalities, VET strives to break the barriers that limit girls’ potential. Guided by a deep belief in the transformative power of education, leadership, and community, VET is committed to providing holistic support to girls, ensuring they not only survive but thrive. Through advocacy, education, and empowerment, VET is building a future where every girl is free to choose her path, achieve her dreams, and contribute to the development of her community.
Our Core Values and Principles
Core Principles
Human Rights-Based Approach (HRBA)
VET firmly believes that gender equality and freedom from violence are fundamental human rights. We advocate for policies and practices that protect and promote the rights of women, girls, and marginalized communities, ensuring they have the resources and opportunities to thrive.
Survivor-Centered Approach
We prioritize the voices, experiences, and needs of survivors of child sexual abuse, early marriage, and GBV in our programs. Our initiatives provide holistic support, including psychosocial services, legal aid, and economic empowerment, ensuring that survivors lead the process of healing and justice.
Ethical and Transparent Governance
VET acknowledges that oppression is multidimensional, and women and girls experience compounded forms of discrimination based on gender, disability, poverty, and other social factors. Our programs adopt an intersectional lens to address these overlapping inequalities.
Inclusive and Participatory Solutions
Our programs amplify the voices of the most marginalized, allowing young women and girls to co-create the solutions that impact their lives. By engaging them in the decision-making process, we ensure that our work is not only relevant but also sustainable, as those affected directly contribute to the shaping of the intervention.
Our Core Values
Dignity and Respect
Upholding the inherent worth of every individual, ensuring that all interventions protect human rights.
Accountability
Ensuring responsible governance, financial transparency, and ethical decision-making.
Resilience
Supporting individuals and communities in overcoming adversity and building sustainable futures
Innovation
Continuously refining strategies to improve effectiveness and adapt to evolving challenges.
Equity
Addressing systemic inequalities by prioritizing the needs of those most affected by discrimination
Empowerment
Equipping women and girls with the knowledge, skills, and resources to lead change in their lives and communities
